In 2019 the International Labour Organization (ILO) turns 100 years. It is one of the oldest international organizations still active in today’s world. Born in the wake of the First World War as part XIII of the Versailles Peace Treaty of 1919, it was built on the belief that “universal and lasting peace can be established only if it is based on social justice.”[1] The Centenary provides an opportunity to take stock and draw a balance: Has the ILO lived up to this mandate and is it still relevant today?
